Once a week we will be doing a Q&A with our players to find out what they have been up to in the various lockdowns and what they are looking forward to when the Rugby is back. Next up, Olly Mulberry!
What’s been the one thing you have missed about a match day at Brickfields?
‘The sense of anticipation and excitement before kick-off. Whether that be seeing the crowd slowly build during the warmup, or the atmosphere in the changing rooms just before the team runs out, there’s no substitute for that feeling! (The atmosphere in the changing rooms after a big home win isn’t bad either 🙌🏽)’
What is something about away days you didn’t realise you’d miss so much?
‘Listening to some of the questionable vocals on show from the new cap’s initiation sing songs, there are some things you just can’t un-hear! Also, the obligatory Nando’s at Cribbs Causeway always goes down well!’
How has the team been able to integrate the new additions to the squad in this peculiar time?
‘We were lucky enough to be able to train together during the summer when Covid restrictions were relaxed, so that gave us a chance to get to know the new boys, and they’ve slotted in seamlessly which has been great. Just looking forward to seeing what they can do on match days sooner rather than later!’
What is something you’ve tried/started doing again since the season was cancelled that you didn’t think you had time for?
‘Without having training twice, a week, I’ve been able to try my hand at a bit more cooking in the evenings. My fiancée and I have been getting food boxes delivered during the lockdowns, so I’ve been channelling my inner Gordon Ramsay, minus all the swearing…kind of!’
How have you been able to work on Rugby throughout the various Lockdowns?
‘It’s been quite difficult to work on rugby skills on your own, but when lockdown rules had previously been relaxed, I’ve been able to make the most of having a brother who plays in the same position as me, so we’ve been able to practice our passing and kicking. Apart from that, I’ve been lucky enough to have a little gym set up in my garage, so I’ve just been trying to stay on top of my fitness, and not eat everything in the fridge 😅’
