Latest News

Plymouth Albion are delighted to announce the signing of Sonny Hirini ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Born in Hamilton, New Zealand, Sonny has established himself as a versatile player. He can play in midfield, at full-back, blindside, eight and on the wing.

His career has seen him play for Te Puna and United Matamata in his home country, as well as Melbourne in Australia.

Our latest Kiwi recruit will join his Ocean City team-mates over the summer ready for next season.

Head coach Ryan Lamb said of his latest signing: “We’re really looking forward to have Sonny join us next season. He can cover a lot of different positions and has a great pedigree playing in New Zealand.

“This, backed up with his pro experience in Liber Sports, will only add to what we’re building at Plymouth Albion.”

Sonny shared Lamby’s excitement at his arrival, saying: “I am very appreciative of the opportunity Plymouth Albion has given me and I am really looking forward to putting in the work on and off the pitch heading into the 2023-24 season.

“I hope to do my part in the best light by contributing to the team, the extended team, and the community. In speaking with Ryan and Max, the club has some high aspirations going forward and they are moving in the right direction. I’m excited to build on this and play part in it all, wherever that may be.”
