Last-Gasp Eastgate Try Secures Fourth Place

Latest News   Match Photos

A late try by Connor Eastgate on Saturday afternoon secured a dramatic win over Rosslyn Park for Plymouth Albion, who secured fourth place in National League 1.

Park started well and took the lead early on through Ewan Fenley.

Scott Makepeace levelled things up shortly after, scoring his first try since 2020, before Joe Luca Smith broke clear to restore the visitors’ advantage.

Jack Oulton burst over after some patient build-up, but Albion’s latest rally was again thwarted by a resilient away side – Arthur Ellis going over before the break.

Two tries from Harry Wilkinson placed Albion in a strong position in the second half, but Jason Cameron’s try looked to have given Rosslyn the win.

Tom Putt’s penalty agonisingly hit the post as he sought the winner, and a drop-goal attempt moments later also bounce back off the stick and refused to go through.

Albion maintained pressure though, and Morgan Stone’s phenomenal break set up Eastgate, whose first try of the season could not have been timed any better.

The win secured fourth for the Janners, who bested Birmingham Moseley by one point following their win over Rams.
