England U20 Centre Nick Lilley Joins Plymouth Albion on Loan

Plymouth Albion are pleased to welcome Nick Lilley on loan from Exeter Chiefs ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The 19-year-old centre is one of the most exciting young talents emerging from the Chiefs setup, having already represented England U20s and made his Gallagher Premiership debut earlier this year.

Born in Plymouth and raised in Devon, Lilley’s rugby journey began at Ivybridge RFC, where he first showcased the ability and athleticism that have marked his rapid rise. His pathway mirrors that of Exeter and England star Henry Slade, combining strong regional roots with a clear vision for professional excellence.

A product of Exeter College and now studying at the University of Exeter, Lilley has also impressed for EURFC in the BUCS Super Rugby competition. His consistent performances at university level, coupled with his leadership and work ethic, earned him a call-up to the Exeter Chiefs Academy in 2024.

Lilley’s impact was immediate. In May 2025, he marked his Premiership debut in style — crossing the try line in a 42–14 win over Northampton Saints, becoming the youngest try-scorer in Exeter Chiefs’ professional history.

Internationally, he earned his first England U18 cap in 2024 before progressing to the England U20 squad, where he featured in this year’s Six Nations and the World Rugby U20 Championship under coach Mark Mapletoft.

Now, Lilley joins Albion eager to take his next step in senior rugby.

“Nick’s arrival is an exciting addition to our squad,” said Plymouth Albion Head Coach Ryan Lamb. “He’s a powerful, intelligent centre with a great attitude and a real hunger to develop. Working within our environment will give him valuable senior experience while adding depth and quality to our midfield options.”

Lilley’s loan move further strengthens the connection between Plymouth Albion and Exeter Chiefs, a partnership that continues to create opportunities for young players to gain valuable competitive experience within a high-performance setting.

“I’m really looking forward to joining Albion and being part of their journey this season,” said Lilley. “It’s a great club with strong history and ambition, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Home fans could get their first chance to see Nick in action — if selected — at Saturday Night Frights on Saturday 25 October, when Albion face Birmingham Moseley under the lights at Brickfields.

This huge night just got bigger, with gates opening at 17:00, £5 pints in the MEC Supporters Marquee until 19:00, and kick-off at 19:45.
