We are pleased to announce that Dan Williams will take over the defence and forwards coaching duties from Julian Salvi who has retired from playing and moved to Exeter Chiefs as their defence coach.
Unfortunately, Dan decided to not put himself forward for the 2018/19 season himself, after being told he would require further surgery to a shoulder injury which saw him out for the majority of last season.
Head Coach, Kieran Hallet said: “I am delighted to say Dan has accepted our offer to fill the vacant defence and forwards coach role at Plymouth Albion. Dan was a very intelligent player who has a great understanding of our defensive system and I believe he will make a very good coach. I am delighted to have him back involved at the club.”
Dan, 29 added: “I found myself in a predicament at the end of last season, but with needing surgery for the third time on the same shoulder, I had to make the decision to not play this year and give myself time to recover. I have a young family and need to think about my future and where I see myself going. I explained this to Kieran and he contacted me and offered me the coaching position.
The team have great prospects this season and it is a great opportunity for me to stay involved in the club. It is a new challenge that I’m looking forward to, it’s a big step up, but I’m excited about where Plymouth Albion will be at the end of the season and I’m looking forward to helping them achieve their goals.”
Dan isn’t ruling out playing rugby again in the future, he’s keeping his options open and taking advice from his surgeon. But for now, he’ll stay an integral part of the Plymouth Albion team.
