CONNOR IS LOOKING TO MAKE A STING AT PLYMOUTH ALBION…
As the new season starts, Plymouth Albion have confirmed another new signing to complete the team.
At just 20 Connor Eastgate will be one of the younger players in the side, but that doesn’t account for experience. He started playing for the Wasps Junior Academy at fourteen and progressed to Henley College two years later by signing his first professional contract for Wasps Senior Academy and training full time with the 1st team.
Connor has also had international age group experience, playing for both Scotland U18 and U20’s. “I played a couple of games at 18s and then in my first pro year with Wasps got picked for the U20s squad for both Six Nations and the Junior World Cup in Georgia, which was all a great experience.”
After A levels Connor looked at going to university and Plymouth was one of his options. He decided that he would prefer to play professional rugby full time and got in touch with Director of Rugby at Plymouth Albion, Nigel Sparrow, he has now signed a two-year deal with the club.
Connor’s father, who is in the RAF, was originally from Plymouth, Connor said, “It’s like I’m coming home, I have so many family members that still live down here, Plymouth felt like an easy transition and the right place for me to be.”
He has only been in the West Country for two weeks, but can already see the pull that Plymouth Albion seems to have with players, “It’s a very close knit team and I have been made to feel extremely welcome. It’s hard being the new boy, but already I can see why players want to stay here, it’s definitely a family club.”
Connor admitted that last week’s start to the season wasn’t ideal, but said that the team showed during pre-season that they can compete against the top teams. He’s looking forward the season and carrying on with the high intensity training that is expected of him and the team at Plymouth Albion.
