Australian winger Teegan Minkley joins Plymouth Albion.
We are delighted to announce that young Australian, Teegan Minkley will be joining Plymouth Albion to play next season.
Minkley, who’s just 21, was born in South Africa before moving to Australia when he was 12 years old. He spent 3 years in Wellington, New Zealand, playing rugby before joining Perth based Australian team, Southern Lions RUFC in the middle of last season, the Lions were recently promoted to the top division in their area.
The Southern Lions club is where Albion players Dan Powell and Dan Swain went to visit during the summer and after a chat with them about wanting to play rugby in the UK they suggested that Teegan made a call to head coach, Kieran.
Teegan explained his reasoning behind the move: “I was looking for a UK club to play rugby and Dan Powell suggested I contact Kieran to see what Albion could offer. I’m looking forward to embracing the different style of rugby that’s played over in the UK and help Plymouth Albion in their quest for promotion next season.”
Teegan said, “My ultimate goal is to move up the ranks in UK rugby and eventually play premiership rugby”, and that he sees Plymouth Albion as a “great place to start”.
Head coach Kieran Hallett is delighted that Teegan has decided to move to the other side of the world to play for the team: “Teegan came onto our radar through Dan Powell, they were playing together over in Australia this summer. He’s an exciting outside back who sees space well and has a good skill set, as well as being quick and I’m excited to see how he adapts to Nat1 rugby.”
At present Teegan is making the most of the long journey to Plymouth and stopping off around Europe, he arrives on UK soil at the beginning of August, so we hope to see him on the pitch in time for the pre-season friendlies.
