Albion start pre-season with big win

Latest News

Plymouth Albion started their pre-season campaign with a thumping 64-17 win over Redruth in Cornwall on Saturday.

Albion took the lead early when a drive saw Harry Wilkinson reach over the line to grab our opening try, before Tom Putt added the extras.

Shea Cornish and Jake Clemson both threatened to drive into the heart of Redruth’s defence, and the latter did around a quarter of an hour in, sprinting over while taking a tackle into the post.

Charlie Groves added the third after some patient build-up, with Putt against slotting the conversion.

Redruth were denied a try by an incredible Tom Putt tackle shortly after, but they eventually found their way through when Sam James went over.

Albion’s cushion was restored though when another drive led to Harry Wilkinson touching down.

Cornish then darted over again from Jack Oulton’s offload, but Pat Walton took a knock in the process and was forced to withdraw at half-time.

Redruth found more joy early on in the second half when Bailey Williams went over, with the conversion going just wide.

Following a slight lull in the game, some Albion pressure paid off when Putts ran clear and scored, before the win caught his attempted conversion. Groves got in again shortly after following Archie Hill’s offload.

Taine Morgan made it three in quick succession after some fine passes along the line as Ryan Lamb’s men began to take full control.

Charlie Levick interrupted the scoring flow with a break from just inside his own half, but normal service resumed at the end with a try by Morgan Stone.
