Plymouth Albion add experience to the pack with signing of Huw Taylor
Plymouth Albion have confirmed the signing of experienced forward Huw Taylor, who arrives at Brickfields ahead of the club’s next home fixture as Albion enter the final stretch of games of the National One campaign.
The 29 year old joins the club having most recently played in Australia with Hunter Wildfires in the Shute Shield, adding further depth, versatility and experience to the Albion pack at a crucial stage of the season.
Born in Bridgnorth, Taylor stands at 196cm and weighs 110kg, and is comfortable operating at lock or across the back row. He began his professional career with Worcester Warriors, making his senior debut in 2014 and featuring in the side that lifted the British and Irish Cup later that season.

Taylor has represented England at Under 18 and Under 20 level, and was part of the England side that won the 2016 Junior World Cup, scoring a try in the final against Ireland.
In 2018, Taylor joined Dragons RFC, where he went on to make over 50 appearances across five seasons, competing consistently in the Pro14 and URC. Following his time in Wales, Taylor gained further experience overseas with Seattle Seawolves in Major League Rugby, before starting the current season in Australia with Hunter Wildfires.
With Albion currently top of National One, Taylor now links up with the squad as competition and depth become increasingly important during the run-in. He arrives ahead of the home fixture against Tonbridge Juddians and will be available for selection once he has settled into the group.
Speaking after joining Albion, Taylor said:
“I’m excited to get stuck in with the boys and hopefully help finish off what has already been an outstanding season.
I’ve worked closely with coaches Lamby and Jarv before at Worcester and Dragons respectively, so it’s exciting to start a new challenge with them down in Devon. Plymouth Albion has always been a great club with a big history, and it’s time to get them back where they belong, competing in the top six of the Championship.”
Albion Head Coach Ryan Lamb added:
“Really excited for Huw to join up with the squad. He’s played at a very good level and will bring a wealth of experience, and we’re really looking forward to seeing the value he’ll bring to the group.”
Albion’s next home fixture sees Tonbridge Juddians visit Brickfields on Saturday 14 February.
Huw Taylor will sponsored by Brunel Construction for the remaionder of the National one campaign.
